Amber sustainability status
The populations of herbs in this category are decreasing, owing to overharvesting and habitat loss. Where roots, barks or resins are used, these herbs are especially at risk as harvesting these parts can threaten the plants’ survival and ability to regenerate. In the face of climate challenges, many herbs are suffering widespread habitat loss, whilst farmers too encounter issues with their cultivation. For the conservation of these medicinal plants, it is always best to seek alternative herbs — by collectively changing the herbs we use, we can help to shift market pressures and alleviate demands on wild populations. Only source cultivated supplies of these herbs or ensure certified FairWild collection. Ask suppliers, ‘where are these herbs from?’
