Eye health
With vision as our major sense to perceive the world, eye health is integral to wellbeing. The eyes are sensory organs that govern our ability to see. Anatomically, the eye is made up of the retina, cornea, sclera, pupil, lens, iris and macula. The retina is innervated by the optic nerve and made up of specialised photoreceptor cells called rods and cones that together facilitate our perception of light, colour and definition.
Understanding eye conditions is essential for early detection and management of pathologies, to prevent vision loss. Regular eye exams, especially for those with risk factors or family history, are recommended to identify and address potential concerns.
