Hepatoprotective
Hepatoprotective herbs protect the liver from damage by reducing oxidative stress, inflammation and fibrosis while promoting regeneration of liver cells (hepatocytes). They work via antioxidant action, neutralising free radicals, modulating inflammatory pathways and enhancing liver detoxification enzymes including glutathione (the body’s predominant antioxidant). They offer protection and support for optimal liver functioning and can be applied in cases of liver damage, fibrosis, disease or sluggish metabolism.
Examples include milk thistle (Silybum marianum), bupleurum (Bupleurum falcatum), artichoke leaf (Cynara scolymus) and schisandra (Schisandra chinensis).
