Diuretic
Diuretics help to stimulate the kidneys to increase the flow of urine, by facilitating the excretion of metabolic waste products and excess fluid. Their mechanisms can vary from increasing renal blood flow, inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the renal tubules and promoting water loss.
Diuretics can be applied to reduce fluid retention, lower blood pressure, support urinary health and support detoxification in some chronic skin or musculoskeletal conditions.
Diuretics can exert their effect through the presence of phytoconstituents including flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolic acids.
Examples of diuretic herbs include dandelion leaf (Taraxacum officinale), burdock root (Arctium lappa), and corn silk (Zea mays).
