Stimulant
Stimulant herbs increase physiological and nervous activity, resulting in increased energy, alertness and enhanced physical or mental performance. They act by stimulating the central nervous system, often through mechanisms such as increased release of norepinephrine, dopamine, or acetylcholine. These herbs may also impact the cardiovascular system by increasing heart rate and circulation.
These herbs may contain phytoconstituents including caffeine, theobromine or gingerols to increase energy, stamina or alertness. Examples include cacao (Theobroma cacao), green tea (Camellia sinensis), yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis), ginger (Zingiber officinale) and guarana (Paullinia cupana).
