Hepatic
Hepatics are herbs that support liver function by enhancing detoxification, regulating metabolism, and promoting hepatic tissue repair and recovery. Hepatics work via multiple mechanisms including antioxidant or anti-inflammatory activity, stimulation of hepatic detoxification systems such as cytochrome P450 enzymes.
Hepatic herbs can also often be bitter, helping to promote the flow of bile and aid in the metabolism of toxins. Examples include dandelion root (Taraxacum officinale), yellow dock root (Rumex crispus), turmeric root (Curcuma longa).
