Warm
Warming herbs gently stimulate circulation and metabolism, bringing warmth to cooler, cold or sluggish states. Herbs with warming properties can be hot, spicy or pungent due to the presence of aromatic oils. They can help to dilate microcapillaries, increase blood flow and improve tissue perfusion, as well as stimulate diaphoresis to promote sweat production and subsequent cooling of the body. These herbs can be used to counter coldness, poor circulation and stagnation to support digestive and immune function and promote vitality.
Some examples of warm herbs include turmeric (Curcuma longa), cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) and cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum).
