Aromatic
Aromatic remedies are often high in volatile oils and often give a strong and pleasant aroma and flavour. They are most often associated with calming and occasionally warming the digestive system. They can aid relaxation and disperse tension in the gut, helping to reduce colic, gas and bloating and improving digestive function.
Most common kitchen herbs and spices have an aromatic quality, hence why historically they were used to flavour and support digestion. Aromatics can often also have carminative properties specific to the gut.
They can also be applied to support respiratory health, helping to clear congestion and infections via inhalations.
Examples of aromatic herbs include cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) and lavender (Lavandula angustifolia).
