Febrifuge
Febrifuge herbs help reduce a fever by acting on the body’s thermoregulatory and inflammatory processes. They help to promote heat loss by stimulating perspiration and modulating inflammatory mediators responsible for controlling fevers.
These herbs often contain phytoconstituents including sesquiterpene lactones which inhibit pro-inflammatory cytokines such as prostaglandins to help lower inflammation and normalise body temperature. They can be applied to help fever regulation and aid recovery from acute infections.
Examples of febrifuge plants include yarrow (Achillea millefolium) and sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua).
