Anti-inflammatory
Anti-inflammatory herbs reduce inflammation in the body by modulating molecular and cellular inflammatory response pathways. Anti-inflammatories inhibit pro-inflammatory enzymes, such as cyclooxygenase (COX) and lipoxygenase (LOX), reducing the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
In addition to being anti-inflammatory, many herbs also have antioxidant effects helping to reduce the effect of oxidative stress damage. Different herbs will target specified body systems, for example: chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) and meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) are used for the digestive system, whilst turmeric (Curcuma longa) and celery seed (Apium graveolens) can be applied to the musculoskeletal system.
