Vasoconstrictor
Vasoconstrictor herbs act by narrowing or constricting blood vessels by smooth muscle contraction within the vessel walls to reduce local blood flow and can result in increased blood pressure. This action helps to increase vascular tone and support overall circulatory health.
Vasoconstrictors can be applied to support venous or general cardiac insufficiency as well as reduce bleeding and inflammation. These herbs can be applied either externally or internally to stabilise blood flow in the affected tissues.
Examples include witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) and horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum).
