Muscle (mamsa vaha srotas)
Muscle channels (mamsa vaha srotas) are the Ayurvedic channels responsible for transporting nutrients and life energy to the muscles, crucial for strength, growth, and tissue maintenance. They originate from the muscle tissue and extend through ligaments, tendons, and skin, ensuring proper circulation and nourishment. They facilitate delivery of nutrients from preceding dhatu (such as blood) to muscles and remove metabolic waste.
Imbalances or blockages can lead to muscle wasting, swelling, tumours, or weakness. The muscle channel specifically nourishes the muscle tissue, so herbs relevant for muscle tissue will also be relevant for this channel, such as ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and shatavari (Asparagus racemosus).
