Kidney

腎 shèn, are the solid, yin organs (藏 záng) related to the water phase. They store the essence (精 jīng) which governs development, reproduction and healthy ageing.

Kidney channel herbs generate the bones and marrow which produce blood and maintain healthy brain functioning. They open into the ears and manifest in the hair on the head.

Psychologically, they house the will (志 zhì) and are affected by fear. Its yin–yang property is considered lesser yin (少陰 or 少阴 shǎoyīn).
