Nervous (majja dhatu)
In Ayurveda, nervous tissue is primarily associated with majja dhatu, referring to both the bone marrow and nervous tissue. This tissue is influenced by vata dosha, which governs movement and communication throughout the body.
When vata is balanced, it fosters mental clarity and emotional stability; however, imbalances can lead to disorders like anxiety and insomnia.
Ayurvedic practices focus on restoring balance to support nervous system health. Herbs are prescribed depending upon which dosha has vitiated the nervous tissue.
For vata entering nervous tissue, give tonifying ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and bala (Sida cordifolia); for pitta, give cooling brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) and shankapushpi (Convulvulis pluricaulis); and, for kapha give vacha (Acorus calamus).
