Kapha-
Kapha-reducing herbs are warming, light, dry, and stimulating, counteracting kapha’s heavy, moist, and cool nature. Herbs with a bitter, pungent and astringent tastes and hot virya also generally reduce kapha. These herbs, such as ginger (Zingiber officinale), turmeric (Curcuma longa), black pepper (Piper nigrum), cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), tulsi (Ocimum tenuiflorum), and trikatu (Piper nigrum, P. longum and Zingiber officinale), possess heating and pungent qualities, enhancing metabolism and clearing mucus. They are light, bitter, astringent, and exfoliating, helping to reduce water retention, congestion, lethargy, and excess fat.
The digestive, diuretic, and detoxifying effects of kapha– herbs invigorate the body and mind, lifting sluggishness. Regular use of these herbs fosters physical warmth, mental clarity, and balanced, energised kapha physiology.
