Faeces (purisha vaha srotas)
The faeces channel (purisha vaha srotas) has its root in the large intestine and anus. It transports and expels feces, maintaining digestive health, guiding the formation, storage, and excretion of purisha (faeces). They separate sara (nutritive) and kitta (waste) portions of digested food, absorb water and electrolytes, and facilitate proper visarjana (defecation) under apana vayu.
Vitiation arises from weak digestion, improper diet, suppression of urges, or overconsumption, producing constipation, diarrhoea, or abnormal stools. Maintaining these channels ensures detoxification, homeostasis, and prevents metabolic and gastrointestinal disorders.
Supportive herbs include castor (Ricinus communis), senna (Senna spp.) and rhubarb (Rheum palmatum).
