Calms the foetus
Herbs that calm the foetus are indicated for “restless foetus disorder” where frequent movements in the womb cause abdominal pain, a sensation of heaviness bearing down and, in severe cases, vaginal bleeding.
Examples come from several categories to be used depending on the cause and include those that clear heat like huang qin, baikal skullcap, Scutellaria baicalensis), nourish the blood (sang ji sheng, mulberry mistletoe stem, Ramulus taxilli), fortify the Spleen (bai zhu, atractylodes, Atractylodis macrocephala), regulate the blood (ai ye, Chinese mugwort, Artemisiae argyi) and tonify yang (du zhong, eucommia bark, Eucommia ulmoides; xu duan, teasel root, Dipsacus asperoides; tu si zi, dodder seed, Cuscuta chinensis).
However, this may describe a threatened miscarriage and a primary care provider should also be consulted.
