Stop hiccoughs (hikka nigrahana)
Hikka nigrahana herbs are traditionally used in Ayurveda to relieve hiccoughs by calming vata dosha in the chest and diaphragm, reducing spasms, and soothing irritation in the respiratory and upper digestive pathways. Their actions are often warming, aromatic and antispasmodic, helping to stabilise erratic movement in the prana vaha srotas.
Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) is a classic example, valued for its warming, carminative qualities that ease diaphragmatic spasms. Other supportive herbs include ginger (Zingiber officinale) and cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), known for their soothing, aromatic action on the chest and throat. These herbs help restore rhythmic, easeful breathing.
