Light (laghu)
In Ayurveda, the light quality is associated with the air and ether elements. Such substances are easily digested and quickly absorbed. They increase vata and pitta while decreasing kapha, aiding metabolism and weight management. They stimulate the digestive fire, enhance circulation, cleanse channels, and improve energy flow.
Proper consumption promotes health, alertness, and vitality, while excessive lightness can lead to weakness, thinness, or imbalance.
Plants, foods and minerals that are light hence have a quality that moves upwards, are easily digested, and remove sluggishness and kapha. They have a reducing effect (known as langhana) and help reduce accumulations.
