Relaxant
Relaxant herbs help to reduce physical and mental tension by promoting a sense of calm and relaxation. They alleviate muscle spasms, ease anxiety, and encourage restful sleep through modulation of key neurotransmitters. These herbs exert their effect by enhancing GABAergic signalling, or by affecting serotonergic or monoaminergic pathways in the brain. They can be applied to help in cases of insomnia, restlessness, anxiety, stress or tension.
Examples include passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), limeflower (Tilia spp.) and valerian (valeriana officinalis).
