Antirheumatic
Antirheumatic herbs help relieve and prevent rheumatic symptoms such as joint pain, stiffness, swelling, and impaired mobility. These herbs work via multiple mechanisms including by reducing inflammation, modulating the immune response, and supporting circulation in affected tissues.
Many antirheumatics also contain active constituents like flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolic acids, and salicylates, which inhibit pro-inflammatory mediators including prostaglandins and cytokines. Some may also support metabolic processes by enhancing detoxification and lymphatic flow, helping to clear metabolic waste that can exacerbate pain and inflammation.
Examples include celery seed (Apium graveolens), nettle leaf (Urtica dioica), turmeric (Curcuma longa) and willow bark (Salix alba).
