Trophorestorative
A trophorestorative herb is one that nourishes and restores the optimal function of a specific organ or tissue. These herbs exert their effect via multiple mechanisms including by promoting cell repair and regeneration, providing nourishment and restoring vitality and function.
Trophorestoratives have an affinity for a specific organ and help to promote repair and restore balance. They can be applied as a preventative, or to restore vitality after a prolonged period of stress to the affected area.
Examples of trophorestoratives include oatstraw (Avena sativa) for the nervous system, plantain (Plantago major) for the mucous membranes, hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) for the heart and milk thistle (Silybum marianum) for the liver.
