Antipyretic
Antipyretic herbs help reduce fevers by modulating the body’s natural temperature regulation processes. They work to either cool or warm the body by increasing perspiration or circulation, and by addressing underlying causes of heat or infection. They often act on the hypothalamus, the brain’s temperature control center, or reduce inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins that contribute to fever.
Many antipyretic plants contain compounds with anti-inflammatory, diaphoretic, and soothing properties that help relieve discomfort associated with fever and aid immune function helping to promote a quick recovery.
Examples include elderflower (Sambucus nigra), yarrow (Achillea millefolium), willow bark (Salix alba) and peppermint (Mentha x piperita).
