Spleen
肺 fèi is the solid, yin organ (藏 záng) related to the earth phase. It governs the transformation and transportation of food and drink into qi, generates the flesh, rules the mouth and manifests in the lips.
Along with the Stomach, it is compared to an official in charge of grain storage. It also contains the blood within the vessels and commands the raising of clear yang, implicating the Spleen in prolapses, haemorrhoids and varicose veins.
It favours warmth and dryness, so is easily harmed by cold and dampness. Psychologically, it houses the intention (意 yì) and is harmed by overthinking. Its yin–yang property is considered greater yin (太陰 or 太阴 tàiyīn).
