Fever alleviating (jwarahara)
Jwarahara are antipyretic herbs used to reduce fever and clear heat from the body by pacifying aggravated pitta dosha. Ayurveda considers jwara as the first disease in most of the texts and the classical line of treatment is amapachana (supporting digestion) and agni deepana (building digestive fire). Srotoshodhana (clearance of the channels) is also key. Herbs exhibit tikta (bitter) and kashaya (astringent) rasa, laghu (light) and ruksha (dry) guna, and predominantly sheeta virya (cooling), which lowers internal heat.
Examples include andrographis (Andrographis paniculata), a powerful bitter herb that clears heat and supports immunity. Also, manjistha (Rubia cordifolia) and grapes.
