Bronchodilator
Bronchodilator herbs promote the relaxation and widening of the bronchi, the major air passages leading to the lungs, thereby improving airflow and easing breathing. Their mechanism of action involves relaxing smooth muscle tissue in the respiratory tract through stimulation of adrenergic receptors and modulation of intracellular calcium levels. This causes an increase in oxygen exchange and supports respiratory health.
Bronchodilators can support conditions including asthma, respiratory congestion or allergies. Examples include ephedra (Ephedra sinica), black cumin (Nigella sativa) and elecampane (Inula helenium).
