Stomach

胃 wèi is the hollow, yang organ (府 fǔ) related to the earth phase. It is said to govern digestion, along with the Spleen, which is compared to officials in charge of grain storage.

It’s particularly the Stomach that controls the ’rotting and ripening’ of food, the transportation of essences extracted from food, and the descending of qi that ensures food moves downwards through the digestive tract.

Its yin–yang property is considered yang brilliance (陽明 or 阳明 yángmíng).
