Small intestine

小腸 or 小肠 xiǎocháng is the hollow, yang organ (府 fǔ) related to the sovereign fire phase.

It receives food and fluids from the Stomach and separates their clear essences from the turbid, sending the clear to the Spleen to be transformed into useful form of qi and transported around the body, while the turbid part is sent to the bladder and large intestine for excretion.

Its yin–yang property is considered greater yang (太陽 or 太阳 tàiyáng).
