Antihyperglycaemic
Antihyperglycaemic herbs help to lower blood glucose levels and manage hyperglycaemia, insulin resistance and diabetic conditions. Antihyperglycaemic herbs can lower blood glucose levels by enhancing insulin secretion from pancreatic cells, improving insulin sensitivity, reducing glucose absorption in the intestines or modulating gluconeogenesis to reduce glucose production.
Some antihyperglycaemic herbs also have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions which help to lower inflammation and offer protection to associated tissues. Antihyperglycaemic herbs can be applied to support conditions including metabolic syndrome, diabetes or polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
Examples include gymnema (Gymnema sylvestre), goat’s rue (Galega officinalis) and cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum).
