Kapha+
Kapha-increasing herbs are cooling, heavy, oily, sweet, sour, salty, nourishing, and moisturising, reflecting kapha dosha’s earth and water elements. Herbs with a cold virya (potency) also increase kapha.
They tend to enhance tissue growth, lubrication, immunity, and strength, while promoting emotional stability.
Kapha+ herbs can slow metabolism, increase bodily moisture, and augment bodily bulk or fat deposition if used excessively. Common examples include coconut (Cocos nucifera), psyllium (Plantago ovata) and oats (Avena sativa), which are grounding, stabilising, and nurturing. Their effects are generally supportive, building endurance, soothing tissues, and fostering calmness, but overuse may encourage congestion, lethargy, or excess heaviness in the body and mind.
