Moves vitality downwards (anuloma)
Anuloma herbs support the natural downward movement of vata dosha, helping regulate elimination and relieve discomfort caused by upward‑moving or obstructed wind. They gently encourage bowel movement, reduce flatulence, and ease abdominal tension without acting as strong purgatives. These herbs are typically aromatic, carminative, and warming, with katu (pungent) or madhura (sweet) rasa, laghu (light) guna, and ushna virya (warming potency), which collectively reduce vata in the colon.
Classic examples include salt, fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), known for its soothing digestive action, ajmoda (Apium graveolens), which relieves gas and supports proper downward flow and haritaki (Terminalia chebula), part of the renowned triphala formula.
