Cools burning (daha prasamana)
Daha prasamana are herbs that soothe and reduce burning sensations throughout the body, particularly those arising from excess pitta dosha. They typically have sweet, bitter, or astringent tastes and a cooling potency. They cool, calm, and relieve heat in the blood, skin, and digestive tract, as well as emotional heat.
Classic examples include sandalwood (Santalum album), renowned for its profound cooling and anti‑inflammatory qualities, and coriander (Coriandrum sativum), which gently reduces internal heat while supporting digestion. Other notable daha prasamana herbs are usheera (Vetiveria zizanioides), sariva (Hemidesmus indicus) and andrographis (Andrographis paniculata).
Andrographis and amalaki (Emblica officinalis), both help to pacify burning sensations and restore balance to overheated tissues.
