Lymphatic
Lymphatic herbs offer support for the lymphatic system, a vital part of the body’s immune system. They aid in detoxification by promoting the flow of lymph, the main fluid within the lymphatic system that carries immune cells.
Lymph is also responsible for excreting waste from the body. Herbs with a lymphatic action exert their effect through various mechanisms including by reducing tissue congestion, increasing lymphocyte production and supporting the excretion of metabolic waste. Some lymphatic herbs also have antimicrobial or diuretic properties, further helping to support immunity and metabolism.
Lymphatics can be applied to aid recovery from any infection including coughs, colds, tonsillitis or laryngitis. Examples include calendula (Calendula officinalis), echinacea (Echinacea purpurea, E. angustifolia) and cleavers (Galium aparine).
