香 xiang, fragrant or aromatic, is considered a temperature in Chinese medicine. This property implies an ability to penetrate through turbidity and revive functioning of either the Spleen, or the spirit and sensory orifices. Notable examples include sweet flag (shi chang pu, Iris versicolor) and patchouli (hou xiang, Pogostemon cablin).
