Drying action (grahi)
Grahi herbs strengthen digestion and absorption by drying excess moisture in the body and stabilising the form of wastes. They help firm up loose stools, reduce mucus, and improve the integrity of agni by removing dampness that weakens digestive power.
These herbs typically exhibit katu (pungent) or kashaya (astringent) rasa, laghu (light) and ruksha (dry) guna, ushna virya (warming potency), and a katu vipaka that enhances metabolic transformation.
Key examples include ginger (Zingiber officinale), which warms and dries excess moisture, and cumin (Cuminum cyminum), which improves absorption and reduces dampness in the gut.
